The Fazenda Pinheiro Journey

Fazenda Pinheiro, in Mococa, São Paulo, was bought by Maria Silva and Marco A. Guardabaxo from Ruben Pinheiro in 2003. They expanded its coffee cultivation to 9.5 hectares in 2007, increasing its output significantly. Situated at 800 to 900 meters above sea level, the farm boasts flat coffee plantations and hills covered with eucalyptus trees. Marco, with his expertise in agronomy, has been renovating and expanding the farm since November 2003. Besides modern infrastructure, the farm hosts the Ocafi labs, office, and roastery, serving as the center of Ocafi’s global operations.

The Journey

Discover, Connect, Enjoy
A Journey into Coffee Innovation

Nestled in the heart of Pinheiro, a dazzling array of 10 distinct coffee varieties flourish under the careful watch of Ocafi. Here, innovation in processing techniques is not just a trend but a way of life.

At the heart of this operation is the commitment to quality, evident in every step of the process. Drip irrigation blankets the fazenda, ensuring that each cherry receives the perfect amount of water for consistent development and flavor.

Harvesting is a meticulous affair. Young trees and those over 1.5 meters are lovingly plucked by hand, while older ones undergo a gentle mechanical harvest in two stages.

Following harvest, the beans embark on a journey of transformation. Spread across 2,160m2 of terraces, they bask in the sun for 10 to 15 days, undergoing the delicate drying process. To achieve perfection, the beans are then carefully distributed among three dryers, ensuring ideal residual moisture.

But Ocafi's commitment to innovation doesn't stop there. Since 2021, they've expanded their horizons, planting two hectares of exotic varietals and embracing the concept of Agroforestry. Avocado trees now stand alongside coffee, enriching the land and diversifying the farm's bounty.

In Pinheiro, every cup tells a story of dedication, innovation, and the vibrant spirit of coffee cultivation.

Sustainable Farming at Pinheiro

Pinheiro isn't just about growing exceptional coffee; it's about doing so with a deep commitment to the environment. Marco and Luis, the stewards of this land, have woven sustainability into every aspect of their operation.

One of their innovative practices involves utilizing their pig herds to produce both bioenergy and organic fertilizer. The pigs play a dual role, not only providing fertilizer for the coffee plantation but also generating bioenergy for Pinheiro and two neighboring farms. It's a brilliant example of circular economy in action.

But that's not all. Pinheiro embraces rainwater harvesting, ensuring that every drop counts. This precious resource is collected and used in various farming processes, minimizing water waste and reducing reliance on external sources.

Through these initiatives, Pinheiro is more than just a coffee farm; it's a beacon of sustainable agriculture. Marco and Luis's dedication to the local environment sets a shining example for farms everywhere, proving that with ingenuity and care, we can cultivate a better future for both coffee and our planet.

Mata Atlãntica Project

Mata Atlãntica project is planting thousands of native trees on fazenda Pinheiro. In the beginning of 2023, they planted over 2000 trees with a fantastic survival rate through the tough winter months. The aim of the project is to maintain local flora and fauna as well as to improve the farm’s soil quality and biodiversity.
